Leonard B. Edelstein received his bachelor’s degree in English and political science and was a designated "distinguished military graduate" from Pennsylvania Military College (PMC), now known as Widener University, as well as a commission with the United States Army. Rather than going directly into the service, he entered Temple University Law School, where he earned his Bachelor of Law degree in 1965. While in the service (1966 -1968), Mr. Edelstein spent a year in Vietnam as an advisor to the Vietnamese Army in civil affairs and psychological operations. He was promoted to captain while in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star.
After completing his military service, Mr. Edelstein entered the private practice of law. In private practice, he worked on a variety of legal matters; however, his real interest was in the fields of torts, or negligence law. For some time, he defended the interests of insurance companies, whose customers were being sued for their alleged negligence. Later, he began to specialize in bodily injury litigation because he felt that there was a need to represent the claimant’s side. For the past 25 years, he has been specializing in representing victims of negligent acts by others.
Mr. Edelstein is a long-standing member of the American Association for Justice, Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, and the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, and is a fellow of the Academy of Advocacy (Temple University School of Law). In addition, Mr. Edelstein is an arbitrator in the Common Pleas Courts of Philadelphia and is an arbitrator and federal court mediator in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Edelstein and his wife Sandra live in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. They have three married sons and six grandchildren.
